Conservative Party Email: “Government Will Not Back Down” vs Big 3 Carriers
The fight between Ottawa and our incumbent wireless carriers does not seem to have an end in sight. The latest email sent out by the Conservative Party of Canada to its members touts they will “not back down” against the PR campaign of incumbent wireless carriers. The email is signed off by Fred DeLorey, the Director of Political Operations for the Conservative Party.
The email below is in its entirety and asks members to share a Facebook image which cites WIND Mobile CEO in praising Industry Minister James Moore and Prime Minister Harper for their commitment to Canadians, with a link to ConsumersFirst.ca, the government’s response to the incumbent ‘Fair for Canada’ campaign:
XXX,
Support for our campaign to put consumers first is growing – but the big wireless companies are fighting our government with everything they’ve got.
Thankfully, we’re not in this fight alone – thousands of Canadians, like you, have told us they are standing with us in this fight.
So today, I wanted to let you know something important: our government will not back down.
We’re going to keep fighting for more competition, lower prices, and more choices in the wireless market.
We’re fighting for this because it’s the right thing to do – and we know that’s why you’re with us.
The email signs off by linking readers to WIND CEO Anthony’s Lacavera’s article “Time to separate myth and reality,” where he accused the Big 3 of serving up a “buffet of misinformation” to Canadian consumers with their ‘Fair for Canada’ campaign. Earlier today, the newly formed Unifor union, the country’s largest, held an anti-Verizon rally in downtown Toronto.
Thanks Ward09!

Maybe the conservatives need a supply of burner phones and untraceable numbers for the new Pierre Poutine. I’m sure their Verizon friends will provide.
as a quebecer i laughed
loathe harper, but love what hes doing here
They’re doing the right thing on this matter. Are you a Potberal or a NDPettyer?
oh dear lord, potberal?
I just say a comercial for the big three’s view. comparing it to water rights, uggg
I saw that one too … Pretty Lame Milhouse.
yeah but how many clueless people will they suck in with that. they already got a union protesting downtown
It’s not hard to get a union to protest!
I just saw that too. There should be laws about truth in advertising. These ads only tell 1/2 truths or outright lie. I like how they fail to mention that they control 90% of the wireless market OR that they are fine with the rules as long as they are the big fish in the pond. Now that Verizon (potentially) could come here it’s the big 3 who are now the minnow (and that’s combined). You reap what you sow big 3 and boy have you ever got it coming!
I applaud the Conservatives on their unwavering stance on this.
All they want is our votes. Then watch them turn around saying something else.
If you believe in what politicians say then you are going to get burn. It all comes down to power and money again.
Why can’t we fast forward in time and see the outcome? I just can’t wait.
If we were in an election year you might have a point but we’re not.
It doesn’t have to be election year to plan the seeds. People plant their seeds long before they can harvest. At least some who hate the Conservatives now have a change of thought.
You’re too cynical.
And you’re too naive. Simples.
Everything governments do is in hopes of being reflected. But some governments crack under pressure ie. the Ontario Liberals canceling the Mississauga gas plants costing taxpayers somewhere in the neighbourhood of a billion dollars. The Feds have made it clear, this is in the best interest of the consumers. The Stupid Three had no problem with this arrangement a few years ago when Wind and Mobolicity entered … Why now? Oh yeah Verizon is a bigger threat … Too bad so sad, every free ride comes to an end.
its Canada, they can call and election tomorrow.
Yeah, that’s going to happen.
oh I don’t think it will, it could lol
It could, but I don’t think it’s election issue material.
Interesting; usually governments don’t engage in discussions like this in the media. Most often, they make the decision and move on. That they are still whipping this race horse is rather peculiar.
