Give Me a Break: Next Android OS 4.4 Named KitKat [u]

Following up on Apple’s announcement of its September 10 Special Event to announce a new iPhone (or two), Google has announced its next version of Android OS 4.4, called KitKat (this is not a joke), to go along with over 1 billion Android activations:

The company has historically announced its mobile OS names after sweet treats:
- Android 1.5, Cupcake
- Android 1.6, Donut
- Android 2.0, Eclair
- Android 2.2, Froyo
- Android 2.3, Gingerbread
- Android 3.0, Honeycomb
- Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich
- Android 4.1, Jelly Bean
- Android 4.4, KitKat

Apple’s code names for iOS firmware have previously been revealed to be named after ski resorts. iOS 7 is expected to be launched in September.
