The Apple “spaceship” campus’ scheduled landing has received the Cupertino’s planning commission’s approval. While there still are a couple of approval’s to get, the “landing” apparently goes ahead as scheduled.

As we previously reported, Apple has had a scheduled meeting with the community, a public discussion where it could make a final plea to pave the way for a vote by the Cupertino city council, which will take place on October 15.

During the public meeting, Apple introduced the spaceship-like campus and its plans with a slickly-produced video. The introduction was help by Dan Whisenhunt, the company’s director of real estate and facilities, which presented the video featuring the renowned architect Sir Norman Foster, among others.

According to information obtained by CNET, the development — which is second only to the One World Trade Center of New York City with its immense 2.8 million square feet — will be completed in two phases: the first one will take roughly three years, while the second one will start shortly after the first is completed and without any timeline for completion.

Apple also took the opportunity to address environmental impact concerns raised by the city: how will Apple address the geology an air quality issue as it plans to remove some 3,260 trees to make room for construction. During the public debate, Apple highlighted that it will plant 6,200 trees, after it removes the trees, and it will hand-pick oaks for the site.

Apple’s campus will house more than 14,000 corporate employees when ready and will include facilities such as two restaurants, fitness centers, and a huge corporate auditorium.
