AllThingsD reports Apple will hold its next event on October 22 to unveil new iPads plus more about the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks:

People familiar with Apple’s plans tell AllThingsD that the company will hold its next invitation-only event on Tuesday October 22. The focal point of the gathering will the latest updates to the company’s iPad line, but new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks will likely get some stage time as well, I’m told.

The fifth generation iPad is set to be thinner and lighter, taking cues from the iPad mini design and run the new 64-bit A7 chip found in the iPhone 5s. As for second generation iPad mini that is expected to debut with a Retina display and the A7 chip; no word on whether Touch ID will be included in either iPads.

As for locations of the event, John Paczkowski suspects it’ll be at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino or the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. AllThingsD’s sources correctly predicted last month’s iPhone event date, so we are fairly confident this report will come true.

Update: Rene Ritchie from iMore says this date jives with what his sources are telling him as well:

That’s according to John Paczkowski of the Wall Street Journal and fits with the time line I’m hearing as well.

Update 2: Jim Dalrymple from The Loop has confirmed this date with his classic “yep”. Mark your calendars, folks!
