Viber 4.1 Update For iPhone And Android Brings New Feature ‘Viber Out’

Viber, an app for iPhone and Android allows users to make free VoIP calls and texts to any other Viber users in the world, was updated to version 4.1 today, on its third birthday. With Viber’s announcement, the company looks to be making a move for Skype with its latest feature, Viber Out.

Viber previously enabled Viber Out for users in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan to help users contacts friends and loved ones. To be able to do this Viber partnered with many telcos in the world including Telecom Austria, Telecom Italia, Telecom New Zealand, and more. The partnership with Globe Telecom now allows users to reach anyone in the Philippines for free.

Traditionally, Viber only allowed users to text or call other Viber users, but with Viber Out iOS, Android, and desktop users can purchase credits that allows them to make a call or send a text to any landline or mobile phone in the world. Credits on mobile can be bought as an in-app purchase from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, or with a credit card if you are using the Viber Desktop.

Talmon Marco, CEO of Viber, said:

“Viber Out gives our millions of users a new way to use Viber and ensures that they can reach any contact at any time. We will continue to improve Viber Out, keeping our users connected at the most affordable rates possible.”

Unlike other competitors, Viber Out includes a feature that displays your real phone number so the recipient knows who is calling. Viber Out on your desktop will now import your phone’s address book so that you won’t have to remember numbers or dial them manually. Skype Out also offers a caller ID feature but there is an additional charge for it.

How does it work?

1. Launch Viber on your iPhone or Android phone

2. Get Viber Out credit

3. Dial any number

4. Start talking!

Viber Out joins the Viber Sticker Market as the app’s second paid feature. Included in this update and with further updates, Viber will continue to add more features and content to its app.

Viber is available today as a free download.
