iOS Completely Blows Android Away For Shopping On Christmas

According to IBM analytics, Apple’s iOS has completely blown Google’s Android away in mobile commerce on Christmas, Business Insider reports. It seems that iOS was more than 5 times higher than Android, driving 23 percent of total online sales as compared to 4.6 percent for Android.

IBM has issued a press release about what it saw during Christmas, according to which iOS is a clear winner when it comes to mobile traffic and shopping. Even though the data is U.S. only, it must be noted that iOS reportedly has a minority share of the smartphone market in the region, while Android is supposedly the biggest operating system. As the source points out, the debate around iOS and Android market share matters because developers tend to gravitate to the leading platform and therefore prioritize their efforts for that platform.

iOS vs. Android: As a percentage of total online sales, iOS was more than five times higher than Android, driving 23 percent vs. 4.6 percent for Android. On average, iOS users spent $93.94 per order, nearly twice that of Android users, who spent $48.10 per order. iOS also led as a component of overall traffic with 32.6 percent vs. 14.8 percent for Android.

So if the trend is true internationally as well as domestically, then Apple’s iPhone business is in even better shape than people think.
