Google to Discontinue Sharing App Bump and Flock on Jan. 31, 2014

Back in September Google acquired popular sharing tool Bump, with reports the former paid at least $30 million to acquire the company. At the time, Bump said their app along with their photo sharing application Flock would continue to operate “for now”.

Well, it looks like all good things come to an end as David Lieb, CEO and cofounder of Bump has just announced both Bump and Flock will discontinue at the end of January, 2014:

We are now deeply focused on our new projects within Google, and we’ve decided to discontinue Bump and Flock. On January 31, 2014, Bump and Flock will be removed from the App Store and Google Play. After this date, neither app will work, and all user data will be deleted.

We’ve taken much care to make sure that you can retain any data you have in Bump and Flock. At any point in the next 30 days, simply open either app and and follow the instructions for exporting your data. You’ll then receive an email with a link containing all of your data (photos, videos, contacts, etc) from Bump or Flock.

On January 31, 2014, both Bump and Flock will be gone from the App Store along with Google Play and will cease to function. The reason for the shutdown was due to the Bump team’s “new projects within Google”, which has essentially forced them to discontinue both apps.

Bump had its four year anniversary this past March and noted 125 million downloads of its app along with 1 billion photos sent. We’ll miss you Bump.
