If you’re a Dropbox user, you may want to take a look at Google’s revamped storage plans for Google Drive, now starting at $1.99/month for 100GB of storage per year.
Why the price cut? Google says it’s “thanks to a number of recent infrastructure improvements” which makes it all possible:
We’ve lowered the price of our monthly storage plans to $1.99 for 100GB (previously $4.99), $9.99 for 1TB (previously $49.99), and $99.99 for 10TB, with even more storage available if you need it. How big is a terabyte anyway? Well, that’s enough storage for you to take a selfie twice a day for the next 200 years and still have room left over for… shall we say… less important things. Like before, storage continues to work across Drive, Gmail and Google+ Photos. And, of course, the 15GB plan remains free.
To put these new prices into perspective, Dropbox charges $9.99/month for 100GB of yearly storage. With Google, you can get 1TB for that price.
Apple’s iCloud storage pricing starts at $20/year for 10GB, $40/year for 20GB and $100/year for 50GB.

Google says if you already pay for storage, they will automatically move you to the better plan free of charge. With Google Drive available for Mac and iOS, their cloud storage just got a whole lot better with these lower pricing options.

Good. Hopefully this drives down the prices for all the other providers, too. Nothing like a little healthy competition between cloud storage providers.
Yep. I’m starting to use Google Drive more and more. Google owns my life!
I was fortunate enough to snag 100 GB for free (for a year) from Microsoft during their OneDrive launch, so I’m not jumping on lower Drive prices yet. But I like Drive a lot, particularly the integration of Google Docs.
The main question here, as an iPhone and Mac owner, why Apple charges soooo much for cloud storage? $100 for 50gb? WTF. If they don’t reduce those prices this year, iCloud is going to tank!
It’s because they can get away with it, and are. Until people start speaking with their wallets and stop paying for it, iCloud pricing will remain the same.
You can get 1TB of storage with Flicr for free. Pics only though.
Isn’t there an upload limit per month though with that?
If you are looking for a location to archive your files with a bit more privacy Amazon’s Glacier service is a penny a GB per month, and fully scalable, so you pay for what you use. Lots of backup software using it.
Odd. My google drive has 25GB of space and it’s free.
