Samsung Accuses Apple of Violating two of its Patents

Samsung has kicked off its patent infringement suit against Apple, arguing that the Cupertino giant copied two of its patents, CNET is reporting. The Korean company presented evidence and testimony before starting arguments for its own claims against apple on Monday. 

The first witness from Samsung was Michael Freeman, who testified about the creation of the ‘239 patent for video transmission’. Freeman said that he invented the technology in the early 1990s and received a patent in 1994. He eventually sold the patent to Samsung in 2011 for $2.3 million. A professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago named Dan Schonfeld, then testified that Apple infringed the patent in its iPhone through the use of FaceTime.

Ken Parulski, another expert who was part of the Kodak team that developed the world’s first color digital camera, testified that Apple infringed another Samsung patent for organizing video and photos in folders.

“This is a fundamental invention that’s widely used today,” he said.

Meanwhile, Apple continues to argue in its ongoing suit against Samsung that the Korean company infringed on five of its patents for the iPhone, and that Apple is due $2 billion for that infringement.
