Jony Ive Gets Lifetime Achievement Awards from SF Museum of Modern Art

Apple senior vice president of design Sir Jonathan Ive’s lifetime work will be honoured this fall with the 2014 Bay Area Treasure Award given by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) (via Cult of Mac).

“Ive is our generation’s most innovative and influential figure in the field of industrial design—no other design mind has done more to transform the way we visualize and share information,” said SFMOMA Director Neal Benezra. “SFMOMA was the first museum on the West Coast to establish a department of architecture and design, and we’re thrilled to celebrate Ive’s revolutionary achievements.”

The award will be given at a presentation and dinner on October 30, 2014, where Ive will have a conversation with SFMOMA Curator of Architecture and Design Jennifer Dunlop Fletcher.

Jony Ive said he is grateful to join the list of artists who have received this award, like filmmaker George Lucas, media artist Jim Campbell, painters Robert Bechtle and Nathan Oliveira, and others:

“I’ve always enjoyed visiting SFMOMA, and I think it represents exceptional contemporary art and design,” said Ive. “I’m very grateful to the museum and proud to be recognized among such an amazing list of past recipients.”

The work of Apple’s design head has been recognized by other awards as well, such as the National Design Award in 2007 for his work on the iPhone, and he received an honorary doctorate from the Rhode Island School of Design two years later as well as an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art.
