WhatsApp Working on Snapchat-Like Features, Night Mode, Tablet Version

WhatsApp developers are working on new app features, including self-destructing photos (see Snapchat), night mode, and a tablet version of the popular app, a company employee said in an interview with German magazine BILD (via iPhoneClub.nl).

You may recall that Facebook placed a $3 billion bid on Snapchat, which was rejected by the popular app’s CEO. As it turns out, WhatsApp may add Snapchat-like functionalities to the app, allowing users to determine how long the recipient can see the received picture.

An interesting addition would be night mode, which means the app will automatically activate a dark theme after the ambient light drops below a certain level. Also, the app developers plan to make bug reporting easier than ever.

We have already reported about the VoIP calling feature, which, according to the German magazine, will be out in the coming weeks.

While WhatsApp developers have no intentions to develop a desktop app, they aren’t excluding the possibility of a tablet version, the employee reveals, as many users are interested in texting on their tablets.

Facebook announced its plans to acquire WhatsApp back in February, marking one of the biggest acquisitions in the tech world. Since then, Facebook has asked EU regulators to review the deal in order to avoid local challenges in Europe.
