CIBC Mobile Payment App Expands to Bell Smartphones

CIBC originally launched their NFC mobile payment solution with Rogers but today Bell has announced they’ve partnered with the financial institution to include their smartphones, set to debut in the “coming weeks.”

Todd Roberts, Senior Vice President, Payments Strategy and Innovation, CIBC, said in a statement  “Our clients want the opportunity to pay with their phone at their favourite retailer, and today’s announcement with Bell means that we’re putting this innovative technology into the hands of more CIBC clients.”

The mobile payments solution is supported by the use of NFC SIM cards, which store payment information securely to make purchases under $100.

The following Bell smartphones will support the upcoming CIBC mobile payment solution: Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy Note II, HTC One (M7), BlackBerry Q10, BlackBerry Z10, BlackBerry Bold 9900.

Back in January, CIBC launched their mobile payments solution with Telus. Bell currently has a mobile payments solution with RBC.

Apple’s iPhone currently does not support NFC, but recent rumours point the feature could be coming to the next iPhone 6.
