Samsung Said to Rush Galaxy Note 4 Release to Compete with iPhone 6

For this fall, Apple has promised some great new products, and the iPhone 6 will be one of them, although the rumour mill hasn’t reached a consensus on the release date. What seems to be certain, though, is that Apple will unveil the device in September.

Samsung, on the other hand, is apparently feeling the pressure as it is looking to rush its Galaxy Note 4 launch ahead of the iPhone 6 announcement, according to the Korea Times (via GforGames). The Samsung device will challenge the iPhone 6, sources say, as Apple plans to release a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch version of its popular handset.

Samsung Electronics will unveil its new phablet — Galaxy Note 4 in Berlin on Sept. 3, executives at Samsung’s top-tier local parts suppliers said.

In terms of tech specs, this obviously means that it will impress: It will sport a bigger display, a 5.7-inch flat OLED screen and metal frame, and it will incorporate an ultraviolet sensor measuring UV radiation.

Also, the Note 4 will be powered by a Qualcomm processor and support LTE-A networks for Korean users, according to executives speaking with the Korean media.

Apple sold 35.2 million iPhones last quarter, setting a new record for sales during this period of the year. Samsung has just reported a weak Q2 as Chinese smartphone vendors flood the market. Although the South Korean manufacturer doesn’t disclose high-end device sales, it is estimated to have shipped 74 million handsets for the past quarter.

Unbelievable that Samsungs business is modeled off of Apple rumours.

It’s crazy how much ‘stuff’ they can churn out, and it’s not even the fall yet. As for what sticks…that’s another story.

It’s (unfortunately) something that is of big concern in Asia (especially Korean and China). Many people in China (Women especially) strongly believe they should avoid tanning/the sun as much as possible. To me it’s absolutely crazy, but it’s a pretty big thing there according to my Chinese friends; there is a whole market of products to block of the sun. I can see this being valuable for that.

To me, this is not a sensor I’d ever care about unless I have a bunch of solar powered devices and could use this information to do something useful with those devices.
