Microsoft has released three new ads targeting Apple’s MacBook Air. The ads were published on the company’s Surface YouTube channel yesterday and show the various advantages of the Surface Pro 3 over the MacBook Air.
The MacBook Air doesn’t have a touchscreen, pen, or detachable keyboard. Money quotes inside the videos include the likes of “So you’re saying it does more than my Mac?”.

Here’s how a Surface marketing intern says the Surface Pro 3 has “changed her life” as a student:
The Surface Pro 3 looks to avoid the blunders of the original model, which had consumers puzzled as to why the entry 64GB model only came with 23GB of free space (installed assets took up 64%).
According to estimates based on the company’s SEC filings, Microsoft has lost $1.7 billion on its Surface tablet in two years since the product line has launched, which included a $900 million write down on the Surface RT.

I replaced my MacBook Pro with a surface pro 2 earlier this year. I don’t regret it for a minute.

I have a Macbook retina 13″ and a 12″ Surface Pro 3. The ability to switch back and forth between laptop and tablet means I use the Surface Pro 3 in more places than I do my Macbook.
Except on your lap ???? regardless of usability OSX is a far better OS than windows … I wouldn’t sacrifice that for usability.
I replaced a first-gen Surface RT with my Surface Pro 3. The difference in lap usage is night-and-day. I use it comfortably in my lap on a daily basis now. As for OSs, well, I like different things about each of them. It was a hard choice… until I got a touch-enabked Windows device. Nkw I decidedly prefer touch-enabked computing.
It depends on what you’re doing on the system … Fingerprints and photoshop don’t go well together.
Right….. but that’s the point, isn’t it? Keyboard and mouse are better for some things, touch is better for others, and isn’t having the option best of all? For example, if you want to zoom and reposition a spreadsheet, that’s an easy operation with touch, and a multi-step operation with keyboard and mouse. Why have to choose when having both is best? And I think Apple will come around to realising that, just as Microsoft did.
I take it you’ve never used a Magic Mouse …
I have a magic mouse. Pretty nice device. Still not as efficient as simply directly interacting with the screen, for some tasks. Or do you guys hate interacting with the screens of your mobile devices? I say again, it’s just a very nice option to have for some tasks.
Like I said earlier, fingerprints don’t work well with Photoshop.
And like I say, it’s an option. Don’t use it with Photoshop, and clean your screen every once in a while. Sheesh. 😛 Besides, Apple made at least one acquisition that only makes sense if they intend to release touchscreen Macs in the future, so you may find you’re arguing against their products at some point too.
If you like this failing product known as Surface all the power to you. I on the other hand would not choose a lackluster OS for a unnecessary feature. If Apple adds it some point than great, I won’t use it but at least if I did, I wouldn’t have to sacrifice my OS.

Microsoft clearly overestimated demand for Surface tablets early on, it’s been moving out inventory of first-gen tablets that’s been responsible for the losses, primarily. But Windows 8 sold enough units in months to catch up to MacOS X’s marketshare that was 12 years in the making. And the Surface is just one relatively small part of the Windows 8 ecosystem. Call it whatever you like, but you have no credibility when you resort to name calling.
I love my Surface Pro 3 and my Macbook Pro retina. I’m open-minded enough to see where each excels. I feel bad for you that you are so biased you not only can’t do the same, that you resort to name calling in your bias and ignorance.
Name calling? You’re taking it personal that I called the Surface what it is? A “failing product” constitutes name calling? Or was it “lackluster OS” that insulted you? Bias? Perhaps but at least I don’t take opinionated statements as personal attacks. I thought this was a discussion??? The facts are there that surface is a falling product. You can’t lose nearly two billion dollars and call it a success. My opinion is Windows 8 and other version are a lackluster OS. Am I not entitle to an opinion?? You certainly seem to have one and I don’t call you “closed minded” or say “your showing your true colours” or say that I see your “bias and ignorance” … Hey?! That’s name calling! I have no problems with mine being on my lap, with or without the keyboard.
