Apple Allegedly Pauses iWatch Production

Apple has allegedly asked companies tapped for iWatch production to stop the manufacturing process, anonymous sources speaking with the Taiwanese Economic Daily News report (via Sina Tech).

According to these sources, Apple’s original plan was to start receiving iWatch components at the end of the third quarter, but the plan was paused for unspecified reasons and will only resume during the next quarter or the first quarter of 2015.

The sources couldn’t cite any reason why Apple had halted the production of the iWatch components. As we previously reported, it was Digitimes who reported that Apple’s long-awaited wearable computing device had entered the EVT phase. If it passes this phase successfully, the PVT phase will follow, and only then can we talk in terms of mass production.

Economic Daily News’ report apparently corroborates earlier reports showing a peak season for the fourth quarter of 2014, when the mass production of the iWatch was first rumoured. Since then, voices have whispered about mass production in Q1 2015, but TPK, a company allegedly tapped for supplying touch modules for the wearable, will have its peak season during the next three months.

The iWatch is rumoured to be available in 8 models – four colours and two sizes – with at least 8 GB of internal storage and 512 MB of RAM.
