Mayo Clinic Said to Demo Health App at Apple’s iPhone 6 Event

Health hero

Ever since Apple unveiled iOS 8 at this year’s WWDC, the name of Mayo Clinic appeared to have been linked with Apple’s Health app and HealthKit. The collaboration with Apple, however, hasn’t stopped there, as the Rochester-based medical group will take the stage today at Apple’s special event to demo the benefits of the Health app to medical professionals, the Star Tribune reports.

The products Apple unveils at noon Minnesota time will come with a new app, Health, that holds data collected either by the gadgets or entered by a user. Mayo will show data from the Health app can flow into the more sophisticated management system of a major health center. The two companies have been working together for about two years.

Apple has partnered up with the Mayo Clinic (and Epic Systems) to create the Health app and HealthKit, which has been in the works for two years, as Mayo’s medical director of marketing and public affairs, John Wald, revealed back in June.

The Health app and HealthKit aim to revolutionize how “the health industry interacts with people”, said the medical group’s CEO, Dr. John H. Noseworthy.

For health care providers such as Mayo, this is a great opportunity to gain exposure and attract more patients, but Apple’s focus on health highlights the unfolding change the US healthcare system has been experiencing over the past couple of years.
