iPhone 6 Plus Has 1GB of RAM According to Benchmark

In case you were hoping for 2GB of RAM for the premium price you pay for the iPhone 6 Plus, we may have some bad news for you.

Iphone 6 plus

With just three days to go until the pre-ordered devices reach their customers and Apple stores officially start selling the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, a fresh leak from Korea claims the 5.5-inch iPhone will have only 1GB of RAM (via PhoneArena).

You may recall that there were rumours of only 1GB of RAM being used with the iPhone 6, and that 2GB of RAM would be used with the iPad Air 2. A benchmark screenshot leaked on a Korean forum shows the iPhone 6 Plus memory being limited to 1GB of RAM.

IPhone 6 Plus 1GB RAM

Looking at the official iPhone page, where you can compare the two models, you may notice that there are only a few differences between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, among them being the screen, the camera, and battery life.

The lack of additional RAM will likely affect the choices of tech spec hunters and of those who were after a memory upgrade, but after speaking with iOS developers, we can say that 1GB of RAM is still enough for a seamless user experience.

How much of that 1 GB will the OS swallow? I can see random crashes being an issue.

How are “crashes” related to the amount of RAM?

Besides the point I already have a 5s and next year is when my contract expires, I wasn’t going to get the six because it didn’t have Sapphire glass. I mean with the class going right to the rounded edges like that you are begging for an issue, With the durability of the 5s i can go with out a case, just a screen protector and a skin, want that as well with the 6 sans screen protection, hopefully with the s

A good read on why Apple didn’t use sapphire glass this time around;

It’ll keep apps simple, allow apps to work on the more recent older iPhone, still I think a 2GB upgrade would have been a good idea, I’m sure Apple chose 1GB for a good reason though. They definitely know what they’re doing.

As some others have noted, I doubt they’re “cheaping out” so much as they’re forcing developers to make efficient apps that are reverse compatible. I consider myself a non partisan, having owned both Android and iOS devices. To Apple’s credit, they’ve done a lot to avoid fragmentation. Android is so beyond repair in this regard, that there’s no incentive for device makers to abstain from a spec race.
