Apple Sells 10 Million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Units in First Weekend

IPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Apple has today announced that its first weekend iPhone sales have set a new record: over 10 million new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models, in ten countries, over the first three days of availability.

“Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”

The announcement follows another record set for Apple – the number of pre-ordered iPhones. As the company said in the statement, the demand has far exceeded supply.

During the past couple of years, Apple has been raising the bar: two years ago the iPhone 5 set a new record of 5 million for first weekend sales, but even that was surpassed last year by the launch of the iPhone 5s and 5c. In 2013 Apple announced that first weekend iPhone sales topped nine million units.

Apple has already started selling the new iPhones in ten countries. The devices will be available in 20 more countries by September 26, and, by the end of the year, the new handsets will be available in 115 countries.

Lol the dividing line between the two was arbitrary enough for me to just buy a 6 Plus and I have never been happier especially coming From a 4S

That being said, the record set here is cool but with apple making such limited stock of the 6 Plus, it seems like the sales were like 9.8 million iPhone 6 sold and like 200,000 iPhone 6 Plus given how crazy lines got this weekend lol

Crazy numbers, especially considering China wasn’t one of the launch countries

Without the stock they would have been the same…

Not necessarily. Last year, when the 5s was sold in China on day of launch, there was stock specifically set aside for China. Same thing would have happened this year had China decided to let the iPhone 6 pass regulatory licensing on time.

I dumped my Apple stock after this was announced and the market didn’t respond. I came out a bit ahead, but it’s rather frustrating to have money invested in a company making news that would be a wet dream for any other company and not getting anywhere with it.
