iPhone 6 Pre-Orders Surpass 20 Million in China [Report]

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will launch in China this Friday; and the demand is tremendous. A Social networking giant Tencent reports (via Digitimes) that a total of 20 million pre-orders have been processed since Apple’s partners have officially started taking them.

As of Monday morning — Beijing time — iPhone 6 and 6 Plus pre-orders had almost reached the 10 million mark (9.5 million) on e-commerce site Jingdong Mall (JD.com). When combined with pre-orders from Apple’s carrier partners — China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom — the total number of pre-orders have surpassed 20 million.

Although the carriers don’t disclose the exact information, Jingdong specified that the balance between the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, when compared to previous reports (from China), remained unchanged: almost half (4.7 million) pre-orders are for iPhone 6 and 4.8 million are for the bigger iPhone 6 Plus.

As previously mentioned, in January this year Bloomberg surveyed Chinese smartphone users. Back then the results have suggested that Apple wouldn’t be successful with the iPhone 5s and 5c, due to the 4-inch screen.

This year, however, Apple made a huge step toward meeting customer demand: it increased the iPhone’s screen size and finally launched the iPhablet as well. The above pre-order reports seem to corroborate the Bloomberg survey – indicating a successful iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launch in China.
