Apple Says 52% of Devices are Now Running iOS 8
Apple’s App Store Distribution page has been updated to reflect new iOS usage numbers, and as measured by App Store usage on October 27, 2014, iOS 8 is now on 52% of devices, finally surpassing iOS 7, which now stands at 43%.

The company previously detailed at its October Special Event iOS 8 had reached 48% of devices, and in twelve days that number has risen to 4% (whereas previously it took two weeks to reach 47% due to an iOS 8.0.1 SNAFU), most likely thanks to iOS 8.1 bringing the launch of Apple Pay plus more Continuity features like Handoff and SMS Forwarding and more.
Have you updated to iOS 8.1 yet? There are still numerous bugs that need to be fixed, related to auto rotate, muting of videos during playback, copy and paste and more.

Adoption rate is slowing, probably because they’ve botched a couple of updates lately. Hopefully they learn their lesson.
That’s one point. Another point has to do with on-device storage (or lack thereof). iOS 8 requires over 5GB of storage space so if you have an 8GB iPhone or 16GB iPhone with reasonable amount of media, iOS won’t load on there.
Yes, there are ways to manage your device through iTunes but many users aren’t aware of that or may not have access to iTunes.
Good point. I have a 32GB iPhone 5 and I needed to delete some apps to make room for the update when I didn’t have access to iTunes. Can’t imagine life for the 16GBers.
For the first time, Apple has managed to deploy such an unreliable, buggy version of iOS that from now on, I will heavily scrutinize the need to upgrade as much as I can. Good bye are the good ‘ol days when “it just works”.
I agree with iOS 8 being unreliable and buggy. I haven’t had many problems perse but obviously many others have. Generally, Apple is pretty good with their OS’s & have a good track record of doing right when it comes to their users, so I’m still willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, at least until iOS 9 and whatever version of OSX comes out next year. But if they f**k up again, then I’m with you on scrutinizing.
“….plus more Continuity features like Handout….”
Should be Handoff.
Thanks fixed!
I dislike how Apple touts this completely FALSE statistic. I can only speculate, but I’d suggest that the ACTUAL percentage of devices using iOS 8 is close to 5%.
^ False statement due to lack of any credible fact to back it up.
That’s the problem… there are no facts. Hence, as I CLEARLY stated… I’m speculating.
Your delusional, and without a clue.
It would help if your tiny brain were able to formulate some thoughts to discuss this.
Impossible to discuss anything of reason or reality with someone with a conspiracy theorist type mentality. Sorry.
You’re still just flinging crap. I’ve never EVER stated anything related to conspiracy theory thinking, as I hate that kind of crap. I’m stating fact… The percentages are bogus. Apple admits it in the small print when they clarify where the figures come from.
I dare you to use your pea-sized brain to present a comprehensive discussion on this.
I guess I am one of the 5% that is still on iOS 6. 🙂
