Apple has allegedly contracted another company to manufacture the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones, reports the Taiwanese EMSOne and Economic Daily, as spotted by Apple Toolbox.
According to sources speaking with Economic Daily, Wistron was reportedly contracted to handle some of the iPhone 6 assembly starting next year. Meanwhile, Apple has managed to catch up with demand, as the 16 GB and 64 GB iPhone 6 Plus models are shipping in one business day, and their “smaller” counterparts, in 1–3 business days (in Canada for example).
The rumour seems to slightly contradict an earlier report published by the United Daily News claiming that Apple had already added Wistron as a iPhone 6 supplier handling roughly 2% of total orders.
Also, it is worth noting that earlier in November the Wall Street Journal mentioned Wistron’s name as one of the contracted supply chain players responsible for some iPhone 6 orders. You may recall that Apple has been struggling to meet demand, as have Foxconn and Pegatron, which handle 80% and 18% of iPhone 6 orders respectively, according to rumours from the supply chain.
