Apple TV Upgrade Due This Fall, Analyst Gene Munster Says

An Apple TV upgrade is coming this fall, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says. In a note issued to investors on Thursday and obtained by Business Insider, Munster stressed his belief that Apple’s path to a TV would be through an updated set-top box that “potentially integrates content, gaming, and HomeKit in the fall of 2015 and a television at least a year later.”

Well, first of all, let’s not forget that this is the same analyst who has predicted an Apple television set launch in each of the last five years. As you can see, he was wrong: The company decided to focus on the launch of the Apple Watch instead.

What’s noteworthy, though, is that talks about an Apple TV upgrade started early last year, as the update of the set-top box is way overdue. As noted by MacRumors, the last update came in January 2013.

The analyst believes the next-generation Apple TV could lay the ground for the television set he has dreamt about so many times. Fact is, Apple is interested in the TV market, and Tim Cook emphasises that every time when he’s asked about it.

I think the TV is ready to go – it’s just content/providers/damn cable companies that are an issue.
