Next Up for Touch ID: MacBooks, Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad [Rumour]

Tim Cook has been vocal about 2015 being the “year of Apple Pay” and the latest — albeit pretty vague — rumour apparently corroborates this.

Taiwanese site apple.club.tw (via MacRumors) claims to have fresh information about the upcoming generations of MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad. As part of its drive towards getting its desired share in mobile payments, Apple plans to integrate Touch ID into these devices, at least according to the blog.

Citing anonymous sources, the site claims Apple will position the fingerprint scanner above the trackpad on MacBooks. Apple’s plans also include customers being able to use its desktop computers to make Apple Pay purchases: it intends to integrate the fingerprint sensor within the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad.

We must note here that, earlier this month, well-connected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted a 12.4% increase in Touch ID module shipments for this year, but didn’t mention integration into Mac computers or Apple accessories.

Although using Touch ID on a Mac may sound appealing for some of us, there are technical obstacles the company still needs to solve.

The Taiwanese blog has often been reliable in leaking information about forthcoming Apple products such as the iPhone 6, but we suggest you take this rumour with a pinch of salt.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea to integrate the Touch ID into its Macbook (Airs/Pros). Least one convenient way of logging into your laptops each time by just touching the sensors than typing your password.

On the TrackPad or Keyboard would be better, at least for me that is. My traveling MacBook Pro is most of the time on a stand behind my two monitors. My iMac does not have a built-in trackpad or keyboard. I also would not have to replace both machines to get iTouch technology.
