Following the release of invites for Apple’s media event set for March 9, Swiss watchmaker Swatch has released more details regarding its wearable device that will compete directly with the Apple Watch.

On Friday, Swatch announced the Swatch Touch Zero One which is a smartwatch that has a dedicated touch screen and was built with a focus on durability and outdoor activity. The heavy focus on fitness and outdoor activity comes thanks to a partnership with the Beach Major Company, which organizes Beach Volleyball competitions.

Besides the volleyball specific functions like “power claps” and “power hits”, the Touch Zero One will compete most directly with the Apple Watch Sport. The device features enhanced durability, a lightweight frame, and a sweat-proof band.

Lacking from the Touch Zero One is any mention of non-fitness related content such as phone, SMS, and e-mail notifications. However, the company has confirmed that the device will sync with a smartwatch apps, allowing these non-fitness related features to be added in possible future software updates.
