Business Insider Interviews ‘Becoming Steve Jobs’ Author Rick Tetzeli
Today, Business Insider’s Lisa Eadicicco published a transcript of her interview with Rick Tetzeli, a co-author of the new biography titled Becoming Steve Jobs.
The interview with Tetzeli provides an exclusive look at what made Jobs such a visionary leader in the world of technology.
During the interview, Tetzeli revealed that people who were fired by Jobs still cried when they talked about him years later. Most people knew that Jobs’ intentions were good. Here is a snippet from the interview:
“I think it’s a couple of things. Jobs could be extremely insensitive. We all know that. He didn’t get that reputation out of thin air. But one-on-one with people who had proven to him that they were first-rate, smart, effective people who he really wanted to work with, he could be charming.
And he could really make you feel special. People who went for walks with him really had this feeling that they had the attention of somebody great. And I think they saw that his intentions were good, they saw that he was really, really smart and he got what they did. When your boss gets what you’re doing, that’s awesome.
And so I think all of that was there. They also saw him be a total jerk. But those good intentions and that caring that he showed some of them lingered. They remembered it. They cared about it years and years later.”
Tetzeli also revealed some details that were not included in the book along with his opinion of what really made Steve Jobs who he was.
Becoming Steve Jobs has been praised for being a more authentic portrayal of Steve Jobs. Even Apple executives, including CEO Tim Cook, appreciates the level of detail and accuracy of Brent Schlender and Rick Tetzeli’s book.
