Apple is making preparations to offer an in-store pickup option for the Apple Watch, as some users in the US noticed it as a greyed-out option alongside the “available soon” message in the Apple Online Store and Apple Store app (via 9to5Mac).
At this time, all the Apple Watch models are available only through online purchase, but with a disappointing July shipping date. However, if you are interested in any of the 38 mm Sport models, you can have one in a week or two. That’s not the case with the stainless steel version. Here, the shipping times for the 38 mm models are three to four weeks or longer.
You may recall that Apple announced that it will only take orders of the Apple Watch online until June due to high demand and limited supply. Customers, however, could try it on in an Apple Store to find the best model that matches their tastes.
What the above screenshot reveals is that Apple will be offering the option to order it online and pick it up at a local Apple Store. It could also mean that Apple may have overcome its supply issues that limited the rollout.
Apple may have originally planned in-store pickup of its wearable for April 24, but — as the Wall Street Journal reports — it allegedly ran into manufacturing issues: limited supply of Taptic Engines. The secondary in-store pickup option may suggest that Apple has overcome its initial rollout issues.
