Facebook Working on Voice Assistant Dubbed ‘Moneypenny’ for Messenger
According to sources speaking The Information, Facebook Messenger could soon debut a new voice assistant to help users perform searches and buy products and services:
The company is working on a feature within Facebook Messenger that allows users to ask real people for help researching and ordering products and services, among other tasks. It’s being referred to internally as “Moneypenny,” according to three people briefed on it.
The nickname for the voice assistant comes from the James Bond series, Miss Moneypenny. There’s no word on how Facebook will monetize the service, which will target Messenger’s 700 million users. Earlier this year, Facebook launched a standalone Messenger portal for web browsers, in an effort to allow further reach for users of the messaging service.
