Rogers Renames Some Wireless Plan Categories to Adopt ‘Tab’ Moniker

Rogers today has revised three wireless plan category names to now use the ‘Tab’ moniker. The new names are shown below in bold, with their old names in parentheses. Nothing has changed price-wise, aside from the names. We now have Premium Tab, Smart Tab and No Tab (aka BYOD).

  • Premium Tab (Formerly Smartphone): Includes higher-end devices such as the iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy 6S Edge, etc.
  • Smart Tab (Formerly Smart Picks): Save $10/mo on your monthly plan with a greater upfront phone payment. Examples include the $0 iPhone 5c on contract.
  • No Tab (Formerly BYOD): Save $20/mo on your monthly plan when you bring your own phone or buy it outright.

These changes may seem confusing to customers, but Rogers says it should make things easier. When asked why these changes were made, a Rogers representative responded via email to say “We’re looking to simplify the choice for our customers and make selecting a price plan easy.”
