Intel Unveils Skylake Processors, Could Make 2016 Mac Debut

Small intel best ever

Intel has today unleashed a wide range of Skylake processors for next generation desktops, notebooks, tablets and other portable devices, including its new Compute Stick (via HotHardware). The Y-Series Skylake CPUs are dedicated to 2-in-1 convertibles and tablets, while the U-Series is aimed at thin and light notebooks and portable all-in-one machines. Similarly an H-Series targets gaming notebooks and mobile workstations while the S-Series is designated for desktops and mini PCs.

“Intel is making some big promises with Skylake-based Core m processor, including claims that its processors offer twice the performance of competing tablets like the iPad Air 2, up to ten hours of battery life and 40 percent great performance than last year’s Core M processors. The Core m3 and Core m5 will also be used on the desktop side in future iterations of Intel’s Compute Stick”.

The chip maker has introduced four 28W U-Series SKUs that range from the 2.7GHz Core i3-6167U up to a Core i7-6567U. All of these processors incorporate Iris Graphics 550 and even support DDR4 memory. H-Series processors feature a 45W TDP processor and Intel HD Graphics 530 for all SKUs. Top of the line 45W model Xeon processors are also part of the H-Series, with both processors incorporating Intel HD Graphics P530, DDR4 memory support.

As one might expect, Apple may opt to incorporate the new Skylake processors in 2016 Macs.
