Apple’s ‘iPhone 6s’ To Offer Next-Generation Three-Level Force Touch Technology

According to a new report from 9to5Mac, the iPhone 6s will feature a new generation of Force Touch technology that has three different input methods.

The feature will reportedly be called the “3D Touch Display,” and will be able to detect taps and presses, but also a deep press. The device’s display will be able to sense a tap, a press, and a deeper press.

Considering that very few touchscreen smartphones have ever supported two different types of taps (let alone three), Apple will likely have quite a bit of work to do to teach users how to use Force Touch on their phones.

Force Touch has already made its way to the Apple Watch and OS X, however this is only a fraction of iPhone users that may have some experience using Force Touch. This may present a higher-than-normal learning curve for most iPhone user.

Of course, this assumes that the rumours are accurate. However, 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman and his sources have a strong track record. The report also notes that the rumoured 12.9-inch iPad Pro will also include this 3D Touch technology.

All the details will be revealed at Apple’s media event on September 9, where the company is expected to announce the next-generation iPhones, a new Apple TV, and new iPads.
