Apple TV 4 Specs Said to Include 8GB/16GB Storage, A8 Chip and More

9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman continues his slow leak of what we can expect at Apple’s upcoming special event, set to take place on September 9, which many are anticipating new iPhones and an all-new Apple TV.

Today’s report comes after BuzzFeed revealed one major feature will be universal search and a price of $149. Now, the reported specifications of the next Apple TV “will feature a mix of new and familiar hardware, according to reliable sources,” says Gurman:

We are told that Apple has considered two pricing strategies: the simultaneous release of a $149 base model with 8GB of storage alongside a $199 16GB model, or the release of the 16GB Apple TV alone at $149. In either case, Apple will offer a $149 Apple TV.

Given the lower Loonie, this will most likely result in Canadian prices around $175-$225?

Limited onboard storage will only be 8GB and 16GB, as most apps will stream/download from the Internet, coupled with iOS 9’s efficiencies to reduce app sizes plus load games in smaller chunks.

The new hardware will be powered by the A8 processor Apple debuted in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, while the new remote “will be a dark gray/black color to better match the new box’s aesthetic,” plus made of metal. It will have a touchpad up top, with two buttons beneath for Siri and Home, plus rocker buttons which are to believed to control volume.

The device will have the same ports as the current Apple TV: power, HDMI and a microUSB port.

We’re one week away from finding out whether these details will materialize, but right they appear to be on the right track considering the sources. Stay tuned!
