Digitimes was quicker than analysts at giving an estimate of the total iPhone sales expected for the September quarter. Sources from Taiwan’s iPhone supply chain have spoken about Apple’s iPhone demand, which could match the numbers it reveals during next month’s earnings call.
According to these sources, total iPhone shipments – which also includes the iPhones that Apple will unveil tomorrow – are expected to be between 45 and 50 million units for the September quarter.
Total shipments of iPhone devices, including updated iPhones which are to be unveiled shortly, are expected to total 45-50 million units in the third quarter of 2015 and hit 70-80 million in the fourth quarter, according to sources from Taiwan’s iPhone supply chain. The estimated iPhone shipments are based on Apple’s demand for parts and components for the two quarters, said the sources, adding that shipments of the updated iPhones will start gaining momentum in September.
Somehow in line with Kuo’s earlier prediction of zero or negative iPhone sales, supply chain sources claim Apple has ordered 70–80 million units for the fourth quarter. In the light of the above numbers, sources say Apple is preparing for lower iPhone 6s and 6s Plus demand, although they expect it to grow in the first quarter of 2016.
As for the production process, everything seems to be fine: no foreseeable bottlenecks, the sources claim, as there are no shortfalls of force touch panels, camera modules, processors, or memory.
