Vine Launches App For Apple Watch

Today, Vine has launched its watchOS app for Apple Watch with the ability to play tiny videos on your wrist. The app features a complication on certain watch faces that’ll keep wearers up to date on how many times their videos have been looped.

Even though that may sound slightly obsessive, it’s still better than keeping a count of Twitter followers or retweets on your wrist.

Vine’s Apple Watch app has been in the works since at least June, when it was demoed on stage during an Apple keynote. Apple chose Vine to showcase the new ability for apps to play back video in watchOS 2, which launched in September.

Even though Vine didn’t ship this update that far after the launch of watchOS 2, the short delay may speak to the general stagnation of Apple Watch apps. Vine did a good job of shrinking down the key features of their service into a watch app, however, the load time is still pretty slow.

Alongside the Apple Watch app, Vine also updated its iOS app with a new way to discover videos. You can now swipe left on any video to load a related clip that Vine thinks you’ll like.

Vine is available as a free download from the App Store. The app requires any device running iOS 8.0 or later and is compatible with watchOS 2.
