Apple Updates App Store Guidelines With Enforced Rules Against Low-Effort Apps
Within the App Store Guidelines support page, Apple urges developers not to "submit apps that are indistinguishable from what's already widely available."
RBC Mobile Gains Apple Watch App to Check Balances and More
RBC Mobile for iPhone has been updated today to allow the purchase of digital gift cards to send to friends, plus also the addition of Apple Watch support, for customers to check balances, receive alerts, find branches and ATMs:
What’s New in Version 4.2
– Buy digital gift cards, track balances and send them to friends.
– Use your Apple Watch to check balances, get Alerts, and find our branches and ATMs.
– Check account balances without signing in using Account Preview
Unfortunately there’s no support for Touch ID yet. Back in May of this year, mobile cheque deposit was added to the app.

RBC is SOOOOO slow at updating their app UI. It’s an eye sore!
The balance checking feature also appears to ONLY work for personal accounts, not business accounts. Another limited feature added with poor communication. For such a large bank, RBC’s mobile app should be considered an embarassment.
The UI is still pre iOS7 for some strange reason and obviously not optimized yet for the “Plus” series of phones. I think the UI in general needs a TON of work.
The watch capability is quite limited at the moment, you can see your balance and that’s it. They have Locator there too but it seems there’s a bug that it thinks Location Services is not on, when it actually is. I reported this to RBC yesterday and hopefully a fix is on the way.
I also noticed the “RBC Wallet” option is now available in the app. This is interesting because it is not the standalone RBC Wallet on Android that lets you add your credit cards as well as gift cards, and pay with them. This one is gift cards only and it’s part of the main Mobile Banking app for iOS.
Maybe I’m reading too much into it but could this omission mean….Apple Pay support is coming?
