Shaw has announced it has closed its acquisition of WIND Mobile, part of a $1.6 billion deal made back in December, making the deal official. The Competition Bureau last month announced it would not challenge the acquisition, giving the deal the green light.

Brad Shaw, CEO said said in a statement the company is ready to offer Canadians more wireless options for their money:
“We know Canadians want options when it comes to their wireless provider and, in time, customers can expect to see integrated offerings that provide them with the best value for their dollar in quality of coverage and connectivity. We are excited about our growth prospects in mobile and welcome the WIND team of 1200 employees. With the transformative power of this transaction, Shaw will become a leading pure-play connectivity provider.”
WIND Mobile has roughly 940,000 subscribers across BC, Alberta and Ontario, with 50MHz of spectrum in those provinces. The network continues to upgrade, to much awaited 4G LTE, as the carrier announced in December it would be built by Nokia.
