Yesterday, Sony reminded the world their PlayStation 3.5 update today brings Remote Play to your Mac or PC, which means you can start playing your games away from your console and TV. With 3.5 firmware now available, many gamers have started to play their PS4 on their Mac or PC.

Here’s a quick tutorial on how to set this up, so you can start playing your PS4 on your computer.

1. Update your PS4 to 3.5 firmware. Check by going to: Settings > System > Should show 3.5

2. Download PS4 Remote Play for Windows or Mac (Requirements: Windows 10.1 or higher; OS X Yosemite or higher) and install it.

Next, here are steps to setup your PS4 system prior to doing online gameplay:

  • Enable Remote Play. Select (Settings) > [Remote Play Connection Settings], and then select the checkbox for [Enable Remote Play].
  • Activate the system as your primary PS4™ system. Select (Settings) > [PlayStation™Network/Account Management] > [Activate as Your Primary PS4] > [Activate].
  • To start Remote Play while your PS4™ system is in rest mode, select (Settings) > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Features Available in Rest Mode]. Then select the checkboxes for [Stay Connected to the Internet] and [Enable Turning On PS4 from Network].

3. Ensure you’ve connected a Dualshock 4 wireless controller with a USB cable to your Mac or PC.

4. Next, launch Remote Play and sign in— then you can start playing your games.

There are caveats, as streaming and playing your Mac or PC depends on your Internet connection. Therefore, it makes sense to change your streaming and frame rate settings within PS4 Remote Play settings.

While you are limited to streaming in 720p, it’s definitely cool to be able to do gaming on your Mac or PC, away from your PS4 and TV, if you’re jonesing to play your games.
