George Strombo Hosting Canadian Beats 1 Show on Apple Music

According to an exclusive interview with the Financial Post, Josh McConnell reports Canadian music and TV personality George Stroumboulopoulos will host a Canadian “takeover” of Beats 1.

Apple has confirmed that the hour-long segment will air on July 2 at 11:00am PST / 2:00pm EST. After the initial “takeover” episode, the series will continue for four consecutive Saturdays at 11:00am PST / 2:00pm EST.

  • July 9: Josie Dye and Dine Alone Records
  • July 16: Coeur de Pirate and Dare To Care Records
  • July 23: Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew representing Arts & Crafts Productions
  • July 30: Metric’s Emily Haines and Last Gang Records

Stroumboulopoulos was most recently known for his role as the main host of Hockey Night in Canada. As of the 2016-17 NHL season, Stroumboulopoulos will be replaced by his predecessor Ron MacLean.

Apple’s Beats 1 has been successful due to Zane Lowe who earned his fame at BBC Radio 1. Zane stared in New Zealand and so working with DJ’s from other countries like Australia. Zane is now working with artists from all over the world, including Canada.

With Canadian artists Drake, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes putting Canada in the spotlight this year, there’s never been a better time to tap into Canada’s music scene.

Beats 1 has hosted similar “takeover” series in Australia and Japan over the lifetime of the service. Apple’s Beats 1 turned one year old on Thursday and Canada celebrated its 149th birthday on Friday.
