macOS Sierra Beta Hints Launch in October

Apple will likely release its next generation desktop operating system, macOS Sierra sometime in October, says ComputerWorld. The blog has had macOS Sierra beta releases on its radar and compared it to last year’s beta rollouts. As it turns out, Apple is about 12 days behind its last year’s schedule for El Capitan.

While Apple doesn’t state release dates for the next generation operating systems such as iOS and macOS, the beta releases have served as a good hint for guessing the approximate date of their public launch, especially when compared to previous versions.

As noted by ComputerWorld, Apple issued the sixth Sierra preview on Monday (the third one for this month). When you look at El Capitan, Apple released the sixth beta on August 3. As noted by ComputerWorld’s Gregg Keizer, in July and August each Sierra preview was pushed out between 10 and 15 days after the corresponding beta of El Capitan, with the average lag being 12 days.

Considering the above, and that Apple follows a similar public release schedule as last year’s, Keizer concludes that the possible release date for macOS Sierra should be in the first half of October, sometime between Oct. 9-15, roughly matching the Yosemite release, which was pushed out to the public on October 16, 2014.
