Apple Watch Series 1 Price Drop: $90-$120, Aluminum Only Now [u]
They say early Apple adopters pay the price and it definitely shows with the latest update to the original Apple Watch, now known as Series 1.
Last year, when Apple Watch launched, 38mm and 42mm Sport models were priced at $449 and $519 in Canada.
Fast forward 18 months later, and the Apple Watch Series 1 has been discounted by $90 to $359 for 38mm Sport models, while the 42mm Sport gets $120 off to now sit at $399 CAD, compared to launch day prices. In March, Apple dropped prices to $399/$469 for aluminum models. Today’s update takes an extra $40 off 38mm and $70 off 42mm models.
Stainless steel Apple Watch prices remain the same, at $699/779 for 38mm/42mm models, respectively.
On top of the price drop, Apple Watch Series 1 is only available in aluminum cases, but the watch does get a dual-core processor upgrade. So in essence, you get a price drop and a hardware bump, but aluminum is your only choice.
What’s are the differences between Apple Watch Series 1 versus Series 2? The latter gets built-in GPS, brighter second-gen display and is water resistant to 50 metres, available in stainless steel and ceramic. Apple eliminated gold Apple Watch Editions from their line up, replaced by Ceramic.
If you don’t need the latest Apple Watch Series 2, the price drop on the original Apple Watch is not bad, since there is a processor upgrade too.
Are you going to buy an Apple Watch this year? Or wait until a model with cellular connectivity comes along?
