How to Listen to Music While Charging iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus

Apple eliminated the 3.5mm headphone jack in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and it’s still something people are talking about, with good reason. Change is difficult, but Apple has the “courage” (as per SVP Phil Schiller) to make it happen with iPhone 7.

So if you want to listen to music while charging your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, you’re out of luck since your Lightning port is occupied, right? Think again, because Belkin has announced the new RockStar dongle, which allows Lightning Audio + Charge, and is MFi certified, so it won’t fry your iPhone.

The RockStar is “coming soon” and will be available for $39.99 USD. That’s pretty pricey for a dongle.

As for another way to listen to music while charging your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus? Use an Apple dock, according to Apple SVP Phil Schiller, in an apparent email response to a customer (via MacRumors).

Philschilleremail

Schiller explains in an email, Apple’s $49 Lightning Dock includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, so users will be able to listen to audio with headphones or speakers while charging.

Hey, if that doesn’t work out for you, just pick up a $219 CAD pair of AirPod wireless headphones (coming in October), right?

They will of course still work with the new iPhone 7, which has the latest Bluetooth tech.

The problem with BT, is that they cut out every once and a while, which is annoying. Bass is lacking too. Nothing beats quality wired headphones.

Apple removed the 3.5mm jack to sell accessories. Plain and simple. 40$ for a dongle or 219$ for wireless earpods. The dongle should come with the phone at no charge.

The dongle is included in the box, and so are EarPods.

Try and spread correct information

I guarantee EarPods do NOT come with the phone.
they cost $160 USD.
You get same shitty headphones as before though, and lightning connector.

Your guarantee is worthless. EARPODS have always been wired, and Lightning ones DO come with the iPhone 7.

AIRPODS are the “wireless earpods” as Speedracer99 mistakenly called them, and are the $160 USD extra.

agree 100% the dongle to charge and headphone jack should come with it. but that would defeat the purpose because apple wants you to suffer

“Apple removed the 3.5mm jack to sell accessories.”

No, they removed it to make room for a better camera and a 15% larger battery. Being able to sell accessories is just a bonus, but they don’t exactly have a monopoly on the headphone market.

Honestly what a fuss over nothing. I’ve had an ihome speaker for two years that I plug my phone into at night for charging and it merrily plays music over lightning while I fall asleep.

The jack took up a lot (relatively) of space in the phone. Space now used by more useful stuff – bigger battery??

If you want to use your existing headphones use the free dongle.

Removing the jack was the right move.

So now you have to carry around this hideous bulky WHITE adapter with a Jet Black iPhone, just to charge and use wired headphones at the same time? At least place 2 lighting ports on the dame phone FFS!

Well, if you’re already carrying around your charger around when you’re out and about I’m sure an adapter won’t make much difference. Most people who listen to music on the go aren’t also charging their phone.

They are if being used as a navigation device with an aux in cord from the deck. Sleek black phone with all black dash, and now you have this eye-sore white brick attached to the phone. Two lightning ports would of helped. Or a more discreet black lightning port splitter, that isn’t attached to a huge box.
