Dedicated ‘Events from Facebook’ iOS App Launches
Facebook has launched a dedicated app called Events from Facebook for iOS users in the U.S., in what the company says is dedicated to its most hardcore events users.
The app allows users to easily manage events they are attending or discover ones from friends, plus find events near you in an interactive map, which can be filtered on time and event category.
You can also get event recommendations, based on your history and what’s popular with your friends. The app also allows you to add calendar events from your phone, plus offer notifications on upcoming events to track changes.
Facebook Events product manager Aditya Koolwal told TechCrunch, “The core thesis behind this app is that if we build something for the people really eager to discover events, people will have a good time.” The bigger goal is to find out what features works so the company can “take the best parts and put them back in Facebook”.
The social network says there are over 100 million people daily using Facebook events, with 650 million total users.
A Facebook spokesperson told iPhone in Canada the app will arrive in Canada “most likely next year”, but no firm date has been set. So stay tuned. If you want to create a free U.S. iTunes Account to get this now, here’s how to do it.
