Apple has officially announced the release date for its highly-anticipated Apple Watch Nike+ on Friday, according to French website Watch Generation. The company has updated its Apple Watch Nike+ web page, adding an October 28 release date for the new special edition of the Series 2 Apple Watch.
Apple announced the collaboration last month during the official debut of the Apple Watch Series 2, stating that a special running-focused Nike+ model would be coming sometime in “late October.”
The special Apple Watch includes exclusive watch design, a special perforated band, and of course the ubiquitous Nike “swoosh” on the underside. The watch also comes with a custom Nike application which will proactively promote and track workouts, called Nike+ Run Club. This feature will allow users to compete with other Apple Watch Nike+ owners.
At this point it is unclear whether Apple intends to extend the application’s availability to other Apple Watch users, or whether it will remain an exclusive to the Apple Watch Nike+.
The watch, overall, is fairly unchanged, despite the Nike inclusions. The watch comes in black with with yellow, silver, or gray highlights on the wristband. The wristband itself is different from the standard sports band in that it contains perforations which Apple claims are there to reduce weight and improve ventilation.
The Apple Watch Nike+ will sell at $489 CAD for the 38mm model while the 42mm watch will set you back $529 CAD. Pre-orders were made available when Series 2 launched weeks ago.
