Apple’s AirPods Manufacturer Inventec To Expand Production Capacity [REPORT]

Despite what many believe are silly looks and a high price tag, Apple’s AirPods are actually receiving largely positive reviews. Many were worried the earbuds were going to fall out, but now seem convinced they won’t, and those who were initially skeptical about their ability to properly pair are surprised at their functionality.

Even with their high price tag and a lengthy shipping delay, AirPods have been incredibly well-received. Glowing reviews from consumers and critics have led to incredibly strong demand for the earphones, which are currently sold out in Apple stores worldwide, except Canada appears to be special, as multiple retail locations yesterday received stock.

Now, sole Apple manufacturing partner Inventec is planning to expand its production capacity of AirPods to meet strong demand from consumers, according to a new report from DigiTimes.

At the moment it is unclear as to how many units have been ordered to begin with, which means that the current shortages could either be due to high popularity, or low inventory. Assuming it is the latter, it makes sense for Inventec to expand their production to meet demand, but whether or not this demand can be sustained to justify new production lines remains to be seen.

Earlier this week, Apple CEO Tim Cook called the AirPods “a runaway success,” commenting on the fact that “we’re making them just as fast as we can” so as many of its fans can get a pair of the headphones as soon as possible. Overall, Cook said that Apple has had “a great holiday.”

How are you liking your AirPods so far?

I’m sure the new production lines will be easy to changeover to produce version 2

Ya, definitely on the want list. Too expensive for me to justify at the moment, but you never know when you’re going to need a Apple product self-esteem purchase, right?

They are expensive but so far, they are really good for a 1.0 Apple release. Just works.
