Fido and Virgin Promo: $49/6GB, $56/8GB Plans for Quebec Only

Earlier this month, Koodo launched BYOD promo plans in Quebec to rival regional carrier Videotron, introducing $49/6GB and $56/8GB plans. Now, it looks like Fido and Virgin have jumped into the game (about time!) to match Koodo and offer the exact same thing.

Both plans by Fido offer unlimited Canada-wide minutes, global SMS/MMS, Fido Roam and Spotify, plus the usual extras like caller ID, etc. Data overages are billed at $10/500MB.

Again, if you’re a BYOD customer on Fido, call in or talk to chat to make the change to one of these plans. If you’re about to join Fido, don’t forget to find a referral as you’ll get a $25 bill credit.

Virgin has matched these BYOD plans too, with their own “limited time offers” seen below. Again, it’s time to call in and switch to these plans if they’re better than your current plan right now.

Videotron in Quebec is offering double data on plans starting at $48.95 with 6GB data, so of course Fido (Rogers), Koodo (Telus) and Virgin (Bell) wouldn’t let them steal away customers.

Let us know if you end up switching to one of these plans!

Question: bought an iPhone 6 on contract with Fido. That contract has reached its maturity last September. Does my iPhone count as a byod? Since I’ve technically paid off the value of the phone over the course of 2 years.

It should, I think. If you can’t switch to one of these plans online, call in.

No doubt about it, you’re now BYOD. The phone is yours. Except for one thing, it’s still locked into Fido/Rogers. They’ll charge you for unlocking it. If there’s something the CRTC should look into, it’s that practice to charge for unlocking once your contract has reached its maturity.

This is why we should all desperately hope for Shaw/Freedom Mobile to become a truly competitive national carrier. The disparity between rates in SK/MB/QC and the rest of the country is incomprehensible.

Hope and despair are for those who won’t accept reality.

I was also with Fido, but paying $57/month for only 3GB. As I was in Ottawa, I was eligible for Videotron, and switched two phones over. Got $5/month off per phone, so I’m paying $43.98/month/phone with 6GB for each.

I combined my services with Videotron so the 8GB plan is $50, now. I really couldn’t ask for more.

Plus, with Unlimited Music, that data will last me for the whole month (hopefully!)
