This year’s upcoming iPhone 8 has been rumoured to possibly have Touch ID on the rear of the device, signalling a massive change from the existing placement of the fingerprint reader. But if the latest alleged ‘leak’ is to be believed, the idea floating around of Touch ID on the rear, could be a thing of the past.
An anonymous tipster sent @OnLeaks the following alleged iPhone 8 schematic, which appears to show a large spot on they phone casing, in what some suspect could be for wireless charging. The image also details previously “leaked” vertically stacked cameras on the rear:
Apple is allegedly running into low yield rates with implementing Touch ID into the new iPhone’s display, which is why some suspect this rear placement may be one possible solution being explored by the company.
Again, take this image with a grain of salt, nobody knows what the iPhone 8 will entail, but as we move closer to the fall, expect better leaks to surface.

If Touch ID is inlaid in the front I will most likely buy it… if it’s on the rear or taken away (not likely) I’ll wait until next year and stick it out with the 5s a little longer.

I doubt it will be called iPhone X as they’ve dropped X from MacOS and numbering from iPads. My guess is the 7s will be called iPhone and the special one will be called iPhone Pro following the iPads.
Possibly. Would bet the house that its not iPhone 8. Realeasing a 7S, 7S Plus, and an 8 at the same time implies the first two are already obsolete.
good point. I’m also not a fan of having many numbers after the name. I’d prefer they just keep it simple, buy having ”iPhone”, ”iPhone Plus” and ”iPhone Pro”. Make sit easier for the customer and on the mind. i just don’t want to get to ”did you buy the new iPhone 14 ?” kind of stuff…
How about if it’s part of the On/Off button on the side?
Hmm interesting. My issue is I always use a case so I wonder if it would become cumbersome
