Twitter For Apple TV Adds Periscope 360-Degree Global Map

Twitter launched its very first streaming app on Apple TV last year with the promise of Thursday Night Football and live sports, and now it’s expanding its television repertoire with even more live content: 360-degree videos.

The social media company just announced that it’s adding a Periscope Global Map to its Apple TV app, from which users can select all kinds of live 360 videos from around the world. After users select a video from the Periscope Global Map, they can then navigate the 360-degree video using the Siri remote, a new report from TechCrunch said.

“Watch more of what’s happening with live 360 video and the @PeriscopeCo Global Map! Update to the latest Twitter app on Apple TV,” Twitter said.

You can pick a live 360-degree video by going through the world map, and you can use your Siri remote to navigate the clip. The play/pause button on the Siri remote lets you choose where in the world you want to look for videos and lets you zoom in and out of countries, continents, wherever you want. Twitter continued:

According to Twitter, 77 million hours of live user-generated video was broadcasted on Periscope in the first quarter of 2017, so it seems there won’t be a lack in content. Also, seeing as Twitter also has live TV apps on Xbox and Amazon TV boxes, it won’t be surprising if live 360 videos appear on those platforms some time soon as well.

Twitter’s move comes after the company’s recent push for live content. The social media platform announced earlier this month it partnered with Bloomberg TV for news content on the site. The company also announced partnerships with BuzzFeed, Live Nation, the WNBA and others.
