iOS 11 Device Compatibility List for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

It seems with each new release of iOS, some older devices are left in the dust, and with iOS 11 this is no exception. Apple says only 64-bit devices will work with iOS 11, so that means your aging iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c won’t get the newest update.

When iOS 11 releases this fall, the new redesigned App Store won’t support 32-bit devices and apps as well. Here are the 32-bit devices set to miss out on iOS 11:

  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 5c
  • iPad 4

Here are the 64-bit devices that will support iOS 11:

  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 6/6 Plus
  • iPhone 6s/6s Plus
  • iPhone 7/7 Plus
  • iPad mini 2/3/4
  • iPad Air/Air 2
  • iPad (5th gen)
  • 9.7-inch iPad Pro
  • 12.9-inch iPad Pro
  • 10.5-inch iPad Pro
  • iPod touch (6th gen)
If you have a device that supports iOS 11, once installed, older 32-bit apps will no longer work. You can check which apps on your device will be affected by going to:
Settings > General > About > Applications > App Compatibility

In order for these 32-bit apps to work in iOS 11, you’ll need to contact developers to update their apps to 64-bit for them to continue to exist in Apple’s new App Store.

For example, some Canadian apps set to bite the dust in iOS 11 include the National Post, Telus Optik TV, Bell Self Serve, Toronto Eaton Centre, Save on Foods, SN Now and TSN Golf, to name a few.

Apple says “these apps may slow down your iPhone and will not work with future versions of iOS if they are not updated. If no update is available, contact the app developer for more information.”

Did your iPhone or iPad make the cut for iOS 11? If it didn’t, just hold out for ‘iPhone 8’ this fall, right?
