Apple’s upcoming ‘iPhone 8’ could charge faster than before, if the latest research note from Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis proves true. According to his research note obtained by MacRumors, he believes Apple will bundle a 10W USB-C wall charger with the tenth anniversary iPhone:
We believe that in the iPhone 8, Apple likely includes Cypress Semiconductor’s USB-C Power Delivery chip in the phone and an additional chip within the power brick in box (likely a new 10W, which would use a more integrated solution with Cypress Power Delivery).
The integrated USB-C Power Delivery chip built into the next iPhone and the 10W power adapter are said to be supplied by California-based Cypress Semiconductor, apparently the same CYPD2104 module currently used in Apple’s latest 10.5-inch iPad Pro.
Existing iPhone models include Apple’s 5W USB Power Adapter, which charges slower compared to Apple’s 12W USB Power Power included with iPads.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about USB-C fast charging for iPhone 8. Back in March, KGI Securities analyst (and Apple product psychic) Ming-Chi Kuo, made similar claims.
If iPhone 8 does include a USB-C Lightning cable, it means users will be able to charge their new smartphones on Apple’s latest MacBook Pro models, without the need for #donglelife out of the box.

Probably end up being USB-C one end lightning on the other. The stupidity is unbelievable
Why do you find this stupid? Everyone is moving to USB-C…. should technology flounder because it isn’t convenient?
I think the stupid part he’s referring to is that they are jumping on new technology which is great except if they keep the lightning connector on the iPhone side it’s purely stupid. USB c to USB c would be the way to go.
But then you would be mad that they are changing the lightning. Re: 30 pin to Lightning. There’s nothing wrong with them wanting to keep their standards especially when everything is going wireless the only thing you need it for is charging.
Agreed. But since they seem to be moving forward with USB c as seen on MacBooks. Would only make sense to jump on the wagon. USB c seems to be the one stop cable for everything.

Interesting discussion but last year they removed the audio out and the earbuds require a lightening connector now. Why would they do that if only to change the connector again the following year to USB-C?

Possibly, I did not fully understand the above. When on the road with my 13″ MacBook Pro 2016 I only travel with the follow:
61 watt USB-C MacBook Pro charger
USB-C to USB-C cable for charging MacBook Pro
USB-C to Lightning cable for charging iPhone
USB-C to Micro USB cable for charging Bose headphones
Charging is fast and can be done one item at a time directly from the charger or if everything is plugged into the MacBook it all charges at the same time.
Lean and mean with no dongles.
This is nice hear. Fast charging was much needed in iPhone and it would also be great if Apple could bring in wireless charging this year as they believe in wireless tech after removing the headphone jack.
I recently bought iPhone 10 that have face recognition. Its awesome
