Instagram Finally Lands on Apple TV, but Canada Has to Wait

Instagram on Apple TV

Instagram has finally arrived on the Apple TV, bringing Reels, longer creator videos and live shows to the living-room screen. Canadians hoping to park that feed on the big TV will have to keep waiting.

In a post on X, Instagram said the Apple TV app is “available in the US only,” and its help centre still lists Instagram for TV as a United States feature. That lines up with what we are seeing here: the couch-side doomscroll so many people already do on their phones is not a Canadian living-room option yet.

On supported Apple TV hardware, the app is built for watching rather than posting. Viewers can flip between short Instagram Reels, longer creator videos, episodic series and live shows, then pick up where they left off on another device. Instagram frames it as a way to watch together with friends and family instead of huddling around a phone.

Meta started testing Instagram for TV on Amazon Fire TV devices in the United States in December 2025, then expanded to Google TV and Samsung smart TVs earlier this year. Apple’s set-top box was the obvious missing piece for people already deep in the Apple ecosystem, and the listing now calls for tvOS 26.0 or later.

Longer horizontal video has been a growing focus on Instagram’s phones and tablets too, including a U.S. test that lets select creators upload clips up to 90 minutes as the company pushes beyond quick horizontal videos. Putting that same video habit on an Apple TV remote is a natural next step, just not one Canadian accounts can take yet.

For now, if you are in Canada, Reels and the rest of Instagram stay on your iPhone, iPad or computer. When Meta opens Instagram for TV north of the border, the App Store page already hints at what to expect: favourite creators on the big screen, live shows, and continue watching across devices.

Would you actually doomscroll Instagram Reels on the living-room TV, or is that one habit better left on your phone (while you’re on the can)?
