Apple Launches PayPal Payment Option in Canada for iTunes

Apple is expanding it payment options to PayPal today, with customers now able to use the omnipresent payment platform to purchase goods through iTunes, iBooks, Apple Music, and the App Store. This new PayPal payment option is going live for Canada and Mexico users first, but it should roll out in the U.S. as well soon.

For Canada and Mexico users, the new PayPal payment option is now showing up in the accounts settings options. Simply sign in using your existing Apple ID, select the new PayPal option in Accounts Settings, sign into PayPal, finish the authorization formalities on your device, and make it the default payment option if required.

How to get setup, according to PayPal:

  1. Sign in with Touch ID or your Apple ID and password.
  2. Tap payment information.
  3. Tap “PayPal” then tap “Account”.
  4. Follow the steps to authorize your account.

Once you’ve selected PayPal, all future purchases made with your Apple ID will be automatically charged to your PayPal account. PayPal says that this includes “apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books, as well as Apple Music subscriptions and iCloud storage.” Along with purchases on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, the payment method also extends to Apple TV and Apple Watch.

“PayPal’s availability across Apple’s services further expands our vision of providing customers a variety of ways to easily make mobile purchases, such as asking Siri to make a payment using the PayPal app,” reads a blog post from the company.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Apple has embraced PayPal payments. Apple used to offer PayPal’s Credit service in the U.S. to enable consumers to finance physical products, such as Macs and iPhones, but this was discontinued in 2015 — though it is still available in some markets, including the U.K.

But you still need to use a credit card, so no payment from a bank account linked to PP?

You shouldn’t have to use a credit card if you have a bank account linked to PayPal.

Nope, it still wants a CC and choosing a linked bank account is not even an option.
